Women On Wheels is a women’s only cycle event based out of Methven at the foothills of Canterbury. Saturday  will see riders take to the tarmac and smash out a choice of 30 kilometres, 50 kilometres or the ‘70km Juno’ Goddess of women’ event. All events will start and finish in Methven, taking the quiet Canterbury roads and hugging the Taylor Range.

The focus on the event is participation and there is an event for all abilities.

If you enjoy the ‘social’ side of cycling the team event may be for you, where teams of three combine their times over the 50km race to contest the teams categories. This should bring out the best in the race strategy and team tactics.

The time-trial event (50km) will take the strategy out of the race with competitors racing against the clock. This will allow for those people training for the likes of an ironman event or the longest day coast to coast to test those aero setups and race the clock.

Mountain Bike Race:

Briefing at 0940, race starts at 1000 at the base of Mt Hutt.

Sunday is team work day, with the Women’s Single Track Relay being based at the Mt Hutt Bike Park and consisting of teams of three, with each team member riding over a 8.5 kilometre single track course loop returning to the base area to tag their team mate. The Track will consist of a combination of Mt Hutt Bike Park tracks and will be predominately intermediate and beginner single track. Allow for some decent climbing.

Although the emphasis on Sunday will be the team race, there will also be an opportunity for the individuals to shine and complete three laps of the same course in this category.

Fastest lap times will also be acknowledged.

The base camp will have food and coffee available for purchase.
